Program Description

Event Details

Founded in 1995, Shakespeare Behind Bars is one of the longest running, continuously operating, art, theatre, Shakespeare, and original writing prison programs in the US. This film takes a year-long journey with the Shakespeare Behind Bars theatre troupe. Led by innovative director Curt L. Tofteland, the prisoners cast themselves in roles reflecting their personal experience. Their individual stories, including information about their crimes, are interwoven with the plot of The Tempest as the inmates delve into the characters they portray while confronting their personal demons.

Registration is required for this documentary viewing and begins on March 1. You may register online, in person at the Ask a Librarian Desk or by calling 412-366-8100, extension 113.

Snacks will be provided.
