Switzerland and Liechtenstein (50 min.)

The beauty of snow and ice are on display in this month’s selection.

In Switzerland we will visit the towns of Murren and Zermott. The scenery surrounding Murren is like that of Middle Earth with its towering rock formations and cascading waterfalls. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” was modelled after his area. Murren is the gateway to the Schilthorn, a mountain featured in James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” We will also hike down the “thrill walk”. The town of Zermatt is the gateway to The Matterhorn. Here we will visit the inside of a glacier. Just as impressive is the Gorner Gorge, a spectacular mountain canyon.

In Liechtenstein we will take a walk/bike on a 46 mile trail that takes us through the whole country and all it’s municipalities. We will learn about the wood carvings of the Walser People, visit the Prince’s Winery and medieval restaurant. We’ll also visit the medieval Schellenberg Castle well as the ski resort town of Malbun.
